The Fischer winery in red wine village Sooβ south of Vienna was founded in 1662. Christian Fischer took over the winery from his father in the 1980’s and started ageing his red wines in French oak barriques, a novelty in the region at the time. Now fully organic, Christian and his daughter Franziska produce elegant, complex and age worthy reds.
Fischer’s premium Ferabam Zweigelt comes from the best parcels on the eponymous ‘fir-tree’ single vineyard in the hills near Soosz. The mature vines are 22-37 years old. After fermentation, the wine is aged in French barriques for 15 months. Ripe sour cherry aroma and flavours, fine tobacco, opulent, complex and elegant, finishes long and soft.
